Mosaic International Summit - Doha2011 - Day 3

This day also started with a breakfast and a hot big mug of black coffee since we were tremendously exhausted from the long flight and very busy previous day.
After Alison made reflection on yesterday and gave a brief about what to expect today, we started our first leadership session conducted by the two amazing coaches Prof. Binna Kandola and Stuart Duff who started by defining leadership and giving an overview about it, and then coached us about the Mosaic Leadership Model.
After coffee break, Prof. Binna gave every group a task and that is to present their ideas about the values and skills that must be found in a leader, and what followers are looking in their leaders, so we went to our group leader’s room and discussed that for around an hour. Later, each group got the opportunity to present their results in front of the rest of the delegates in a very beautiful and educating way.
After lunch, Ms. Farah Williamson, Middle East Director of The Social Investment Consultancy gave a very bitter presentation about poverty in the world and the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) and how to implement them in the less fortunate areas in the world. After that Ms. Williamson gave us a task to prioritize the MDGs needed in specific countries she provided us with. We went down to the team leader’s room again and made the list that we found most suitable for the country given to us (Afghanistan). Later, each group also presented their outcome to others.
Before the end of today’s program, the first Open Forum was conducted in which delegates got to speak up whatever they want to within a time limit of only five minutes (isn’t that too short?!). We’ve listened to quite splendid talks from some of our fellows, couple about volunteering, one about poverty, and one about development, and we’ve even listened to our English policewoman fellow Khizra reciting a poem, and have watched her fellow English delegate Billie make a moochy moochy dance!!
The rest of the evening was free and we went out to explore Doha for the first time.

Mosaic International Summit - Doha2011 - Day 2

Day one of the conference began brightly: After a nice light breakfast and getting introduced to other fellow delegates; we went to the sessions room where we were briefed about the aims of the summit by Alison Bradley who has also presented a video message from HRH Prince of Wales; Founder of Mosaic.
After the brief, we were welcomed to Qatar very warmly by a very warm person: Dr. Saif Al-Hajari; Vice Chairperson of Qatar Foundation and a former Qatar National Team football player. The welcome was so close to the heart.
His Excellency Ambassador John Hawkins; Ambassador of Her Majesty the Queen of Great Britain to Qatar took the Podium next to deliver some of his very thoughtful ideas and experience to all delegates.
After that, Alison stood up again to introduce us to the tremendously splendid Mosaic Team as well as our team leaders whom were participants in last year’s summit in London.
The real journey of the summit began after that with Mr. Stephen Howard, CEO of Business in community who delivered very nice ideas about leadership in business. Stephen expressed his own belief in the virtues that must be found in any leader who is in business world like concentrating on the power of skills of people more than what they do as work, and how to bring out the best in people, and how to always do the right thing even of it is hurtful. Stephen left us with what Mother Teresa once told him: to always ask himself what he does that matters.
After the coffee break, every group gathered in the room of its team leader where everyone introduced themselves to other members of the group, and then all went for lunch.
After filing our stomachs, we had the chance to hear an inspiring journey story from a person lots of people find inspiring, and lots of others find crazy: Robert Swan, who was the first man to ever walk to the two poles, and have been working in that field in the previous 25 years of his life, and although that I don’t agree with the way he handled his personal life, but it was inspiring how he managed to achieve his childhood dream, and how he managed to raise 67 Million Dollars over 25 years to serve his case in saving Antarctica and he poles. Robert gave us his points of view of the values that must be found in a leader, and then we went for a coffee break after which we had an overwhelming discussion with Robert about his journey of life.
After having dinner, and went to the rooms for a good sleep.

Mosaic International Summit - Doha2011 - Day 1

Well..as Jonathan Freeman said: WE MADE IT!

We are here at Coral International Hotel in Doha for Mosaic International Summit 2011 after months of preparing for this event… finally we are going to meet all those distinguished people we’ve been emailing and reading about in the previous months.

After an exhausting trip through Abu Dhabi; me and my fellow delegates Shatha, Noor, and Saed finally arrived at the hotel and checked in our spectacular spacious comfy deluxe rooms. My fellow delegates are really great people and it was a great honor knowing them.

The first impression you get when you arrive is how extremely well organized mosaic team is, the welcoming members, the registration, the delegate pack, the in-room guidance list, the schedule, the organization, and even the prayer times schedule..it shows how enormous work and effort did these people put into this summit.. so thank you Mosaic Team for all that great job specially Vicky who turned out to be like we’ve expected: a very lovely charming young lady who is like a butterfly: flies with charm and gets the job done so smoothly, and of course the so lovely always smiling Allison who is so kind and tends to know everything about everyone.

We had our Welcome Dinner, some sweets, got to know some fellow delegates from other countries,  and then went down to our rooms to have some rest to be ready for the kick off next day.
